DO‑3 aims to preserve and enhance the unique residential character of Lafayette Street while guiding infill development. The overlay ensures that new construction and substantial renovations complement the scale, rhythm and architectural qualities of existing homes.

Height & Scale

Story RangeThe overlay does not alter the base height limits, but it encourages lower‑scale development that steps down toward adjacent properties. Building massing should respect the established pattern of one‑ and two‑story houses.

Building Placement

Build-to (Primary)Front setbacks are aligned with the prevailing setback pattern on the block. Side setbacks are maintained to preserve spacing between houses. Garages and driveways are placed to minimize visual impact on the street.

Design Standards

Transparency (Primary)New homes and additions should incorporate pitched roofs, porches, and materials consistent with existing houses. Front façades must include windows and entries that face the street. Large blank walls and incompatible materials are discouraged.
