Slice House by Tony Gemignani, the fast-casual pizza franchise from 13-time world pizza champion Tony Gemignani, is planning its Denver debut at The Shops at 6th and Broadway. The restaurant is targeting a Fall 2026 opening in Units 3, 4, and 5 at 555 Broadway, joining a retail center anchored by national tenants including Einstein Bros Bagels and Jersey Mikes Subs at one of central Denver's busiest intersections.
Right across the street, Pizzeria Locale, the Chipotle-backed fast-casual pizza concept, operated at 550 Broadway until July 2023, when the chain shuttered all five of its Denver-area locations. That closure left a pizza-shaped gap in one of the city's highest-traffic retail corridors. Slice House, which has grown to more than 140 stores open or in development nationally, now steps into that void with a concept built around regional pizza styles and a pedigree few competitors can match.
Gemignani, a San Francisco-based pizzaiolo, is widely regarded as one of the most decorated pizza makers in the world. He won the World Pizza Cup in Naples in 2007, becoming the first American and first non-Neapolitan to claim the title. He holds 13 world championship titles spanning both pizza acrobatics and baking, has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records four times, and serves as the official U.S. Ambassador of Neapolitan Pizza, a distinction held by only three people globally. His flagship restaurant, Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco's North Beach, has earned national recognition from outlets including USA Today and the Travel Channel.
Slice House translates Gemignani's fine-dining credentials into a fast-casual format. The menu features four styles of handmade crust: traditional hand-stretched New York, homestyle Grandma pan-fried thin crust, rustic Sicilian focaccia pan crust, and Detroit-style pies with crispy cheese edges. All are available by the slice or as whole pies. The concept also offers pasta, wings, salads, and a beverage program that includes craft beer and wine. The brand was named the number-one overall brand by Pizza Marketplace's Top 100 Movers and Shakers in 2024 and landed on Fast Casual's 25 Brands to Watch list for 2026.
The Denver location is part of a broader Colorado expansion led by Mile High Pizza Cutters LLC, a franchise group operated by Jamey Cutter and his wife Cherise. Cutter is a veteran of national restaurant brands including Corner Bakery, Chili's, Wendy's, and Jamba Juice. The group holds a multi-unit franchise deal covering a large portion of the state, with plans for locations in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and mountain communities stretching from Summit County to Telluride. Slice House opened its first Colorado outpost in Loveland in fall 2025, followed by a Boulder location at Twenty Ninth Street, with a Longmont store also in development.
The 6th and Broadway intersection sits at the edge of the Baker neighborhood and serves as a gateway between downtown Denver and the South Broadway corridor. The retail center at 555 Broadway, built in 1950, totals roughly 11,700 square feet across its tenant spaces. The surrounding area has seen a mix of restaurant activity in recent months, with new concepts like Mother Other preparing to open at 675 South Broadway while legacy operators like Imperial Chinese Seafood Restaurant have closed after decades in business.
For Slice House, the Broadway location represents a high-visibility entry point into the Denver market, positioned on a major arterial with strong foot and vehicle traffic. If the Fall 2026 timeline holds, it will be the brand's first store within Denver city limits and a signal that Gemignani's franchise machine is moving beyond the Front Range suburbs and into the urban core. In a city where the fast-casual pizza landscape reshuffled dramatically after Pizzeria Locale's exit, Slice House is betting that championship credentials and multi-style variety can fill the gap.
