After years of prayers, plans, and setbacks, a new chapter is coming to the historic Carson Press building at 2019 Stout Street.

Originally constructed in the 1930s, the red brick structure was most recently owned by Beacon Church, which had hoped to transform it into a downtown church and homeless outreach center.

Despite a heartfelt mission and a $1.5 million purchase in 2021, soaring construction costs ultimately forced the church to sell the property in July 2025 at a $525,000 loss.

Enter Los Angeles based, Miller & Desatnik Realty Corp, who acquired the long vacant building for $975,000 and just filed concept plans for an adaptive reuse project that would give the Carson Press new life.

The proposed project, named Chapter, aims to revitalize the site as a dynamic hybrid venue combining food, entertainment, and community space.

Plans include:
* A full service restaurant, café, and co-working space on the ground floor (5,468 SF)
* A nightclub and entertainment venue in the basement (6,210 SF)
* A rooftop bar and dining area (1,700 SF)

Despite the programming changes, the building’s iconic architecture and footprint will remain intact.

Located just blocks from the Stout Street Clinic and rising luxury developments, Chapter represents a shift in direction for a space once destined to serve the unhoused, now aiming to draw crowds with cocktails and culture instead.
