The Regal movie theater at Colorado Center is getting a $1.82 million renovation. Regal is planning to convert the theater's auditorium seating to recliners, upgrade its interior finishes and add a bar to the concession area.
The theater anchors the Colorado Center office and retail complex at 2000 S Colorado Blvd, next to I-25 and the Colorado light rail station.
The permit covers the full 66,445-square-foot, two-story theater. According to the scope of work, the project includes demolition, new floor infill and the installation of new furniture, millwork and finishes. Structural plans call for new metal framing to support floor leveling in the auditoriums, along with new mid-height walls.
Permit drawings show rows of recliners across the auditoriums, with wheelchair spaces and companion seats built into the layout. The planned seating upgrade drew enthusiastic responses on Instagram, where commenters described the existing seats as uncomfortable and the renovation as overdue. “Finally, those seats hurt my back,” one commenter wrote. Another summed up the reaction: “Took long enough.”
One moviegoer also lamented waiting months to see “Odyssey” in 70mm, only to watch it in what they described as seats “from the ’90s.”
At the front of house, a new bar with back-bar millwork will be added to the existing concession stand. The plans list a total occupant load of 2,145 people across the auditoriums and lobby.
TMS Construction Inc., based in Monument, is the general contractor, and Studio V Architects designed the renovation. The property is owned by Lincoln ASB Colorado Center LLC.
City reviews of the project began in January, with fire, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and energy sign-offs completed before the permit was issued in late September.
