Founded by Kossi Tchenawou, Only Plants is less about chasing rare specimens and more about cultivating connections. The shop’s mission is refreshingly simple, to make houseplants more affordable, welcoming, and community-driven.

Only Plants isn’t just a place to buy greenery, it’s a place to linger. Monthly classes and events invite the neighborhood to play, move, and unwind together. Plant Bingo, Plant + Pilates, and once the weather warms, outdoor events that will spill into the block and blur the line between shop and street festival.

Kossi is intentional about partnerships, too, regularly collaborating with local vendors to keep the ecosystem circular and the community strong. 

Kossi’s path to plant shop owner is anything but linear. Born in West Africa, he moved to the U.S. in 2005 where his discipline and drive earned him a college track scholarship. Years later, while working as a real estate franchise consultant, he built a digital strategy and a “Social Media 101” course, then decided to turn that same playbook inward.

The result has been a rapid rise on social media with 100K followers on TikTok in six months, followed by 100K on Instagram. But the growth wasn’t fueled by trends alone.

Kossi’s content, and the ethos of Only Plants, centers on the idea that plant care is self-care. His approach blends humor with education and mindfulness, tapping into the psychology of habits: when you show up consistently for your plants, you start showing up for yourself.

That philosophy carries into the shop experience. Plants are positioned as a hobby that lowers stress, creates routine, and delivers small wins. These wins quietly improve daily life. As the brand evolves, Kossi is also introducing more relaxed, creative “wine down” content, keeping things personal while staying true to the mission.

As spring approaches, Only Plants is gearing up for a full team rollout and a grand opening celebration, doubling down on accessibility and presence. Kossi is clear that even as demand increases, he’s committed to keeping prices relatively stable and remaining hands-on and available to the community that helped the brand take root.
