New Sakura Square Mural: A Tribute to Japanese American Heritage
Jun 10
/
A new mural just dropped in Sakura Square and it’s a powerful tribute
“Rooted in Tradition” by Casey Kawaguchi honors the legacy of Pacific Mercantile, a Japanese American market that’s been serving Denver since 1944. The bonsai, butterfly, and geisha-inspired figure each represent a piece of that story — past, present, and future
Commissioned with support from the City of Denver and Councilman Chris Hinds, this piece is more than public art. It’s history on the wall. Go see it next time you’re downtown
📍Sakura Square, 20th & Lawrence
