Machete Tacos and Tequila is closing its Colfax location after 10 years in the neighborhood.

The restaurant announced on Facebook that it will not move forward with a new lease at the space and will instead focus on operating its Cherry Creek, Union Station, and Red Rocks locations.

The final day of service at the Colfax restaurant will be January 24. Machete plans to mark the closure with an all day happy hour starting at 4 p.m. The company also said all key Colfax staff members have already been placed in roles at its other restaurants.

Machete’s exit adds to an ongoing period of change along this stretch of East Colfax. Last year, well known neighborhood staples Q House and Middleman both closed, signaling increased pressure on long standing operators in the corridor.

At the same time, the strip continues to see quick backfills and new openings. Low Beam moved into the former Middleman space shortly after its closure, and just next door, Fox Run Cafe closed and was quickly replaced by a new Japanese sushi restaurant.

The mix of departures and rapid replacements highlights how Colfax remains an active and competitive restaurant corridor, even as rising costs and lease negotiations continue to reshape the area.
