A next generation transportation technology is actively being developed in southern Colorado. Swisspod, a Swiss-American hyperloop company, is advancing the research and development of the novel high-speed transportation system at its large scale testing facility.
The company has built what it describes as the world’s largest hyperloop test track at the site. The current system measures about 1,700 feet in length and serves as the primary location for testing Swisspod’s patented technologies for propulsion and levitation. Plans call for the infrastructure to eventually expand into a one mile closed loop track covering roughly 43 acres.
Hyperloop technology is designed to move passenger and cargo capsules through low pressure tubes using advanced propulsion and levitation systems that significantly reduce friction and air resistance. In theory, the system could eventually allow travel between cities at speeds up to 600 mph.
Testing at the Pueblo facility recently reached an important milestone. During a demonstration event in November 2025, Swisspod unveiled its first capsule prototype, known as Aerys 1, and conducted a live test run that reached 65 mph. The company says the test represents the highest speed achieved by any active hyperloop developer to date.
While the current speeds are far below the long term targets envisioned for hyperloop systems, the test confirmed key aspects of Swisspod’s technology and marked a major step in the company’s development program.
The Pueblo facility plays a central role in that effort. Swisspod also maintains engineering and development operations in Colorado Springs, where capsule components and systems are designed and assembled before being transported to Pueblo for testing.
Local and federal officials have highlighted the project’s potential impact on the region. As testing continues and the facility expands, Pueblo is increasingly being positioned as a hub for next generation transportation research and development in the United States.
Although widespread commercial deployment of hyperloop systems is still years away, Swisspod’s work at PuebloPlex represents one of the most advanced testing programs currently underway in North America.
