1233 S. Colorado Blvd
Home Team Deli has opened its third Colorado location, bringing the family-run, baseball-themed sandwich shop to South Colorado Boulevard in Denver’s Cory-Merrill neighborhood. The new spot joins the chain’s original Broomfield location and its Centennial shop, with a fourth location coming soon to Boulder at 2710 Arapahoe Ave.
The Denver shop takes over the former Wahoo’s taco spot right in between Starbucks and Mcdonalds on a stretch of Colorado Boulevard between Cherry Creek and I-25 that carries roughly 60,000 vehicles a day. It joins a corridor that has seen a run of new restaurant activity recently, including Starbird Chicken’s first Colorado location a few blocks south and Floor & Decor’s planned move into the former Safeway further down the boulevard.
Home Team Deli’s whole concept traces back to baseball. The founder grew up in Denver in the 1980s as a Cubs fan watching WGN, and met his wife, a Red Sox fan, at a mutual friend’s restaurant during the 2004 ALCS. Years later, a 2022 road trip with their son to a youth tournament in Cooperstown, New York, took the family through ballparks in Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Kansas City.
That trip shaped the menu, which leans on regional sandwich traditions: a Chicago-style Italian beef, a Philly cheesesteak, a Primanti-style Pittsburgh sub called The Clemente, and a barbecue sandwich called Big Tex. Several sandwiches carry player names, including The Big Papi, The Strasburg and The Iron Horse.
The Broomfield location opened first at 5160 W. 120th Ave., followed by Centennial at 6955 S. York St. Both have built regulars around the Vienna Beef hot dogs and Chicago-style dogs alongside the sandwich menu.
With the Denver shop now open and Boulder on deck, Home Team Deli is about to have bases loaded in Colorado.
