Food Bank of the Rockies has opened a new 270,000 square foot distribution center in Aurora, significantly expanding its ability to serve people facing food insecurity across Colorado and Wyoming.

The facility consolidates operations that were previously spread across multiple leased buildings, bringing food storage, distribution, volunteer services, kitchen operations, and administrative functions under one roof. The move is expected to improve efficiency while reducing long term operating costs, allowing more resources to be directed toward food access programs.

The new center dramatically increases cold storage capacity for fresh and frozen food, expands volunteer space, and adds a much larger production kitchen. These upgrades support higher meal output, increased fresh food distribution, and expanded programs for children and families.

Food Bank of the Rockies serves hundreds of partner agencies across more than 50 counties in Colorado and Wyoming. Demand for food assistance remains elevated due to rising living costs and reductions in federal nutrition benefits, making the expanded capacity especially critical.

Leaders say the new Aurora distribution center positions the organization to meet current needs while preparing for future growth, strengthening the region’s food supply network and improving access to nutritious food for communities across the Mountain West.
