1653 S. Colorado Blvd
Floor & Decor is moving forward with plans to backfill the former Safeway at 1653 S. Colorado Blvd. in Denver.
The grocery store was one of 10 Colorado Safeway locations to close in 2025, with the company saying the closures followed an evaluation of store performance and a regional restructuring.
According to city permit records and project plans, Floor & Decor is proposing a tenant fit out and alteration of the existing 50,048 SF retail space. The plans state there will be no change to the building square footage or use.
The scope includes demolition within the existing space, including the removal of a rear equipment mezzanine, portions of the concrete slab, partitions, plumbing fixtures, electrical distribution, lighting and mechanical ducts.
Exterior work includes alterations to the entrance and customer pickup area, repairing and cleaning exterior finishes and painting the existing facade facing the parking lot.
Project team members listed in the plans include Floor & Decor Outlets of America Inc. as tenant, SBLM Architects as architect, JR Engineering as civil engineer, A.V. Schwan & Associates as structural and racking engineer, KLH Engineers as mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineer, Code Consultants Inc. as fire protection engineer and Langan as geotechnical engineer.
