Another Colfax favorite is saying goodbye.
Q House, the Michelin-recommended modern Chinese restaurant, has announced it will close after service on Saturday, October 4.
Opened in 2018 by chef Christopher Lin, a Momofuku alum, Q House quickly became a standout on Denver’s dining map with nearly 500 Google reviews at a 4.6/5 star rating. It was nominated for a James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2019 and has held a spot on Michelin’s Colorado Recommended list since the guide’s debut in 2023.
When we visited yesterday, staff told us that rising food and labor costs delivered the final blow, combined with slowing sales as more residents find themselves unable to afford dining out as often.
This echoes what some of Denver’s top restaurateurs shared at the recent State of the Plate event: restaurants can’t simply raise menu prices to offset inflation when customers’ pockets are already stretched thin.
While the restaurant has looked busy since announcing its closure, staff noted the uptick only came after news spread that Q House was ending its run.
It’s a bittersweet send-off for a place known for wok-fried cheung fun, crispy chicken wings, and beef tongue and tripe in chile oil, dishes that helped define modern dining on Colfax.
With Middleman next door already closed for good, the building will soon sit vacant. But not for long: a new concept called Low Beam is set to take over the space in October. More on that soon.
