After years of tacos and a short-lived pizza spot, the historic John Hand Building on Colfax has found its newest culinary chapter.
Ma’s Kitchen, Dim Sum & Noodles, officially opened this past weekend, bringing the city’s first dedicated dim sum and noodle house to the South City Park stretch of Colfax.
Led by brothers Xi Yong and Xi Nuan Zheng, the family behind longtime neighborhood favorite Okinawa Japanese Cuisine, which still anchors the other section of the building, Ma’s Kitchen blends deep local roots with a renewed spirit of craft.
Inside the restored brick space, Chef Xi Nuan rolls handmade noodles and dumplings using techniques he refined during months of training in China’s top dim sum kitchens. The result is a menu that is both authentic and welcoming, filled with steamed buns, small plates, and comforting bowls made with precision and pride.
While many Colfax businesses have faced challenges during ongoing transit construction, Ma’s Kitchen sits in a unique position. With its own parking lot, steady foot traffic from nearby East High, and clear visibility from the York intersection, it is well placed to become a neighborhood favorite.
That resilience is already part of the family’s story.
The Zheng's have successfully operated Okinawa next door for more than fifteen years. Their experience and community ties give Ma’s Kitchen a strong foundation, but as always, local support will decide its future.
So consider this your invitation. Stop in, order a round of dumplings, and help welcome the Zheng family’s newest venture to the block. Because on Colfax, community flavor always tastes best when it is shared.
