As Colorado prepares to celebrate its 150th birthday in 2026, Governor Jared Polis is once again asking Coloradans to weigh in on a bold but controversial idea, a pedestrian walkway connecting Civic Center Park to the State Capitol.

Originally unveiled last fall, the Colorado 150 Pedestrian Walkway would improve safety and accessibility between the park and Capitol while also serving as a platform for public art and storytelling to commemorate the state’s history.

The concept has received mixed feedback, with most responses being negative.

Concerns have been raised about the cost, design, and potential impact on the Capitol’s historic setting.

Now, through a statewide survey, Coloradans can share their thoughts. Should the state move forward with the walkway as proposed, scale it back, focus instead on park improvements, explore other ways to celebrate the sesquicentennial, or skip the celebration altogether?
