The Brickyard has officially entered its next phase following a recent groundbreaking on one of Castle Rock’s largest redevelopment efforts. The 31-acre mixed-use district sits west of downtown on the former Acme Brick site and carries a projected cost of $400 million. Developers say the project is designed to create a new hub for housing, recreation, dining, and employment, with full buildout expected by 2030.
Plans call for 520 residential units, including 400 apartments and 100 for-sale condos. A 125-room four-star hotel, the 6250 Wellness Spa, a craft bar and kitchen, and a new food hall known as Pug Mill Market anchor the commercial program. In total, the project will include 50,000 square feet of restaurant, retail, and event space, 33,000 square feet of office, and another 100,000 square feet of for-sale office space. The development’s centerpiece is the Castle Rock Sport Center, a 145,000 square-foot recreation facility with a 25-meter by 25-yard pool, multiple courts, fitness areas, and tournament-ready amenities. The Brickyard will connect to regional bike and walking trails and is positioned near the Plum Creek interchange for direct access to I-25.
Developers report that most retail and restaurant space is already under contract with local businesses. The town previously approved a 25-year tax-sharing agreement to help fund infrastructure, pointing to future project revenue and development fees as the primary sources. The Brickyard marks a significant shift for Castle Rock as it moves toward creating a more defined residential and commercial core, expanding beyond its historic role as a suburban corridor.
