Fire broke out Friday evening at an apartment building under construction near Leetsdale Drive and South Holly Street, forcing nearby residents to evacuate and drawing a large multi agency response.

According to Denver7 and the Denver Fire Department, the fire started around 6:45 p.m. at the Harker Heights apartment building located at 5335 Leetsdale Drive. The structure was still under construction at the time of the fire.

More than 100 firefighters from Denver Fire and surrounding agencies responded to the scene as heavy flames and smoke spread through the building. Fire crews worked for hours to bring the blaze under control and protect nearby properties.

Authorities ordered evacuations for residents in the immediate area as a precaution. No injuries were reported Friday night, and officials have not yet released information on the cause of the fire.

The Harker Heights project is a 283 unit multifamily development designed by Kephart and developed by Embrey Partners. The building was expected to open to residents later this summer.
