The owner of the Mortuary at 2531 N Ogden Street in Five Points is proposing to demolish the building in order to construct 8 single family homes. Currently, the mortuary is occupied by Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

The site is located along N Ogden Street, directly next to Lenore B. Quick Park in between E 26th & E 25th Ave. The property consist of three individual parcels known as 2501, 2515 & 2531 N Ogden Street.

Taylor Funeral Homes & Cremation Services has been in operation for over 15 years. According to the zoning proposal, the mortuary will be moving to a new location in the city. Considering the building is specifically built to accommodate a mortuary, finding a new tenant may pose a challenge, resulting in the building sitting vacant for an extended period adding blight to the neighborhood.

The proposal application calls for a rezoning to U-SU-A1 (Urban Single-unit) and UO-3 (Use-Overlay 3), which will align with the zoning of the adjacent residential uses. If approved, Highland Development intends to construct 8 single family homes with the option of detached accessory dwelling units, alley loaded garages, front stoops and covered porches with modest front yards.

We think the proposal makes a lot of sense considering the street has a quiet residential feel, especially with Lenore B. Quick Park located at the corner. We'll be on the look out for any new renderings and we'll be sure to track this proposal to see how it progresses.
